As strong as a tree

Sit down comfortably, with both feet touching the ground. Begin by focusing on your breathing. Monitor yourself while you breathe three breaths in and out. Just let your breath flow and follow the automatic impulses for inhaling and exhaling.

Feel the ground beneath your feet
Focus your attention on the soles of your feet. Feel the ground beneath them. Especially in hectic situations, it is reassuring to feel the stability of the ground. If you are familiar with this exercise, then this feeling arises without having to previously concentrate on your breathing, simply by deliberately placing your feet on the floor. This can be useful on the fly when things get hot in a meeting.

The sense of stability can be increased with the aid of your imagination. Imagine deep strong roots flowing from your feet and into the ground. In this way, you are as strong as a tree: no matter how strong the wind, you are safe. Practice the combination of "breathing", "feeling the ground" and "being rooted" at least three times per day.
